During the SS 2006, she worked as a Visiting Professor of English Linguistics (replacing retiring Prof. Dr. Peter Trudgill) at the University of Fribourg. She returned to the University of Zurich in the WS 2006/07 as Study Abroad Coordinator and Senior Assistant.

Her research interests are pragmatics and hypertext linguistics, computer-mediated communication, persuasive language in advertising, newspapers and politics, semiotics as well as cultural studies.

Her doctoral thesis Web Advertising: New Forms of Communication (2004) investigated the function of web advertisements. The book is concerned with the interactive communication process of banner advertisements reflecting the new role of addressees in online advertising, the linguistic means and strategies of persuasion, and the relation between mass media and interpersonal communication. Her current research is concerned with cross-cultural communication and the impact of English in French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish print ads.

Anja Janoschka regularly teaches introductory courses in linguistics and study skills. She has also offered B.A. and M.A. seminars on "Hypertext Linguistics", "The Language of Advertising" and "Intercultural Business Communication."
